Design and installation contracting specialist, Steve Stone, has joined Detectronic to head up the company’s new Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control and Automation business, MEICA Technical Services Ltd.
A highly qualified electrician with over 19 years experience, Stone has spent his years working towards supervisor, technician, technical manager and now technical director for MEICA Technical Services. He brings with him a vast resource, having worked on a variety of large scale industrial projects including new and refurbishment installations of over 40 sewage and clean water treatment plants.
Other projects include the installation and assisted commissioning of all motors, instrumentation, control wiring and equipment for the 2012 Olympic canoeing course at the Lee Valley Centre. Managing the design and installation for a large scale coal refinery plant including 50+ motors and conveyors along with all the safety equipment and instrumentation associated with the plant. And installing complex control, and SCADA cabling and instrumentation for a 132,000v to 22,000v twin grid transformer sub-station for the London Underground.
Explains Stone: “There are many opportunities to apply the skills and insight I have gathered in the industrial sector in my new role at MEICA Technical Services. Many of the areas I have covered further complement and add an ‘end to end’ solution to the work that the Detectronic team is already delivering for a number of commercial, industrial and MOD clients as well as water companies across the UK.”
“One of the areas we’ll be looking to expand is the maintenance of the sewage pumping stations associated with private drains and sewers (PDAs) as they are now the legal responsibility of UK water utility companies. We can assist with both the identification and monitoring of PDAs, irrespective of their location, and assist water companies in the effective management of these important elements of the waste water network.”
Commenting on his appointment, Steve Woods, managing director at Detectronic said: “For some of our larger contracts, we have previously had to rely on third-parties to provide part of the electrical instrumentation, control and automation skill-set needed to complete the project. The appointment of Steve Stone and the formation of MEICA Technical Services Ltd will ensure that the Detectronic group can now provide and take responsibility for all of the required elements.”
